OLS Revisits our Roots with Music Movie Mondays!
From the blues and folk revivals of the early 60s, to the rock festivals of the late 60’s, One Longfellow Square has gathered some of the most remarkable performances ever filmed! With our Music Movie Mondays series, on the first Monday of every month, we will present films and programs that feature some of the finest musicians and moments of the decade. Devil Got My Woman, Monday, February 6, 7 pm
At the 1966 Newport Folk Festival, Alan Lomax recreated a traditional juke joint setting and atmosphere. He brought together some of the best blues musicians of the era, including Howlin Wolf, Son House, Bukka White and others for a night of playing, drinking, and general carryin’ on, all with the cameras rolling! Primo Cubano

No strangers to One Longfellow Square, Primo Cubano, Maine's own Cuban son and salsa band, provides the music to a night of Latin Dancing. Primo Cubano featuring Norm Bergeron on Congas and Timbales and special guest Jim Chaitlin. Featuring the classic songs from the Eastern mountains of Cuba and the vibrant city of Havana, this five piece dance combo plays the national music of Cuba called 'Son'. There will be dancing!

Joan Osborne

Joan Osborne is one of the most versatile and great interpretive vocalists working in popular music today. In the years since her Top-10 smash hit "One of Us" launched her career and landed her on the cover of Rolling Stone, she has released another half a dozen studio discs; toured with The Dead for two years as lead vocalist; performed with the Motown supergroup The Funk Brothers; and formed a new band called Trigger Happy with members of The Black Crowes. Guy Davis

The blues permeates every corner of Davis' creativity. The routes, and roots, of his blues are as diverse as the music form itself. Guy's new album will be called, "In Bed With the Blues: the adventures of Fishy Waters". It's an audio version (think books-on-tape) of his own one-man play.

Guy will perform a story/song from the play at One Longfellow, along with a full concert. Video!

Festival Express Monday, March 5, 7 pm
A great concert film, this one follows a tour across Canada by train in 1970. Musicians including the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, the Band, Buddy Guy, and many others spent a week together on a train. They hardly got off except for the shows. In between, they played and partied together like you wouldn’t believe! Great scenes of both the trip and the concerts, and also the open jams that happened on the train. Excellent! ($7 or ($25 series pass – phone orders only.)
